#ClarksvilleJuneteenth
The Clarksville Juneteenth Block Party is proudly hosted and produced by Tiff Perkins and Black Clarksville. This event is more than a celebration—it’s a powerful statement of freedom, resilience, and unity. The purpose of the Clarksville Juneteenth Block Party is to honor Freedom Day, uplift the Black community, and amplify the voices and businesses of Black entrepreneurs and organizations.
What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when General Granger and his troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and enforced the Emancipation Proclamation, bringing an end to slavery in the state. Juneteenth, a blend of “June” and “Nineteenth,” commemorates the moment freedom was finally realized for enslaved Black people in Texas—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It is also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day.
Why Celebrate Juneteenth in Tennessee?
While Tennessee marked its emancipation on August 8, 1863, many enslaved Black people across the country remained in bondage. Celebrating Juneteenth in Tennessee is our way of standing in solidarity with our brothers and sisters nationwide. It serves as a reminder that, though justice and freedom for Black people have often been delayed in this country, we continue to rise—stronger, louder, and more united than ever.
